What is Salubris?

Salubris is the feminine nominative in Latin for health, or wellness, or wholeness. This site is intended to be a repository for whatever resources I create around my understanding of salubris that I think may be helpful.
Introducing my new brand and motto.
As I move into the year which will include my 65th birthday, I have been reflecting a lot on what it is I think I've learned from my experiences in life, and where I go from here. To that end, I've begun to think of myself as "GrandBrad the Elder." The core of what I think I've learned in getting to this stage of life is that the making of a life worth living pretty much boils down to this: "be cool...be kind."
For more on where these things come from and what they currently mean to me, you can read all about it on my wellness blog here.
The Nutrition Kitchen
I believe I have finally managed to retire for good from cooking professionally, including what finished off that career, which was the nutrition kitchen: my healthy meal prep service. Having watched what that kind of approach to nutrition can do for people, and with hundreds of recipes and meal plans developed over the years, the option will always exist to resurrect this service with someone else wielding the knife, especially if I can combine it with what I consider the other 2 pillars of health, fitness and stress management, to create a holistic wellness system that people can use to go the distance with grace and purpose. For now, I have created a class to describe how it is I accomplished that kind of meal prep and help others to do the same, which is available on Eudemy here. As always, if you take the course and want any other resources to help you, I'd love to do whatever I can to continue seeing that system help people attain metabolic health.
Wellness blog
For obvious reasons, I've been putting a lot of thought and effort into healthy aging, with the stated goal to "die young at a ripe old age." To that end, I keep up with the latest information that would support that goal, especially including what I consider the three legs of the wellness stool previously mentioned: Nutrition, fitness, and stress management. When something comes along I feel strongly about and I think I can put in in a form that might be helpful, I will be creating posts on this blog to share that.
Spirituality blog
I definitely adhere to the notion that holistic wellness includes mind, body and spirit. My own spiritual journey has taken some interesting (at least to me) twists and turns, including receiving a master of Divinity and pursuing the pastorate vocationally for a season. I think there are ways of approaching spirituality that definitely support your wellness, but I think that there are also forms that can be detrimental to that, or even toxic. As I have traveled beyond my fundamentalist upbringing, I find it interesting to have conversations with people on that topic, especially with regards to processing how to think about the narrative I grew up with and where we go from here. My thoughts on that will be showing up on this blog.
Chef Brad's 10%
I am a believer in the 90-10 rule when it comes to nutrition: If you do the right thing for yourself 90% of the time, you can play around with the fun stuff once in awhile, because your immune system can easily handle it: it might even be the stronger for having something to deal with, who knows? Although I firmly hold to the notion that you don't have to sacrifice enjoying your food to eat healthy, knowing that you're going to rock it down with the buffalo wings and a home brew this weekend will help you go the distance. Whatever the case, here's where you may find a recipe and video blog for how I make my fried chicken and biscuits and gravy, possibly a beer recipe now and again.
#What's Next?
Wellness, in my view, is not just individual but connected to community and society as a whole. We all travel the path of Salubris together. I have come to the conclusion that our political, economic and religious systems that we thought were going to create the world we wanted to live in are failing us. The question is what comes next? I don't pretend to have the answer, but I'm interested in being a part of the conversation as we (hopefully) move forward as a species. I would like this to be a forum, especially with resources from other people who are in on that conversation.
Weddings. If you need an officiant for your upcoming ceremony, I may be available for that. For more details navigate to the weddings page.
